Practice newsletter – October 2025
Welcome to our October newsletter! As the days grow shorter and autumn truly settles in, we want to keep you informed about important health initiatives and updates from Highfield Surgery.
Sober for October
October is a great opportunity for a health reset. Many people choose to go “Sober for October,” taking a break from alcohol for the entire month. This can offer numerous benefits, including improved sleep, better energy levels, and a clearer mind. If you’re participating, we wish you the best of luck! Remember, support is available if you find yourself struggling with alcohol at any time.

ADHD Awareness Month
October is also ADHD Awareness Month. This initiative aims to raise understanding and reduce stigma surrounding Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD affects both children and adults, and greater awareness helps foster support, early diagnosis, and effective management strategies. We encourage everyone to learn more about ADHD and support those living with it.
Stoptober
Thinking of quitting smoking? Stoptober is here to help! This Public Health England campaign challenges smokers to quit for 28 days during October. Research shows that if you can quit for 28 days, you are five times more likely to quit for good. There’s a wealth of free support available, including a Stoptober app, daily email motivators, and a Facebook messenger bot. It’s never too late to stop, and we encourage anyone considering it to give Stoptober a try.

Flu Vaccinations – Book Your Appointment Now!
Protect yourself and the community this winter! Our flu vaccination clinics will commence on Saturday 4th October 2025. We strongly recommend that eligible patients receive their flu jab. Please contact Highfield Surgery as soon as possible to book your appointment. Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to prevent serious illness from the flu.
A Warm Welcome to Our New Reception Staff
We are pleased to welcome some new faces to our reception team! Our new colleagues are undergoing training to ensure they can provide you with the best possible service. During this time, you may notice them asking questions of their more experienced colleagues to ensure they give you accurate advice and assistance. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as they settle into their roles. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
