This free 12-week NHS programme is designed to empower you to become more active, lose weight, and develop sustainable, healthier eating habits. Accessible conveniently via your smartphone, tablet, or computer, it provides comprehensive structured support throughout your journey.

Why is weight management crucial? Effectively managing your weight is extremely important for reducing your risk of various serious health conditions, including:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Mental health problems
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Joint issues
  • Certain cancers

Are you eligible? To participate in this programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You are over 18 years old.
  • You have diabetes, high blood pressure, or both.
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 30.

Effective NHS Weight Loss Strategies

Evidence suggests that successful weight loss often integrates various strategies alongside diet and lifestyle changes. Key approaches include:

  • Setting Realistic Goals: For individuals with obesity, losing just 3% of your initial body weight can significantly lower the risk of obesity-related complications.
  • Mindful Eating: Practise eating more slowly and pay attention to what and when you eat, avoiding distractions like television.
  • Managing Triggers: Identify and avoid situations that may tempt you to overeat.
  • Building a Support System: Involve your family and friends in your weight loss efforts; their encouragement can be a powerful motivator.
  • Monitoring Progress: Regularly weigh yourself and track your progress to stay accountable and motivated.

Psychological Support: Seeking psychological support from a trained healthcare professional can also be highly beneficial in changing your mindset about food and eating. Techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) are proven to be effective.
